This guy is a real piece of work. I mean I am no book of knowledge but he is just a complete ignoramous. Consider his coment he made about children with autism.

“In 99% of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent?” Savage said last week in remarks that lit up the Internet over the weekend.

“They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz.'”

(I’m glad he’s not a brain surgeon)

Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete, whose 10-year-old son Rodney Jr. suffers from autism, are not keeping quiet.

“We find it shocking that the individuals who name-call and pass judgment on families like ours have had zero experience with the disorder,” the couple said in a statement.

He also responded to the criticism on his radio show Monday, saying, ” Do you want to live in a world where one statement that offends somebody could cost you your career? There is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism. None.”

This is the comment that really bothered me the most!! Why? This wind bag has over 8 million listeners every day and even if half of them believe this crap then he is hurting people.

MRI studies have shown that many major brain structures are implicated in autism. This includes the cerebellum, cerebral cortex, limbic system, corpus callosum, basal ganglia, and brain stem. Other research is focusing on the role of neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and epinephrine.

Dr. Piven and colleagues performed MRI scans on 2-year-olds — 25 control toddlers and 51 toddlers with autism — and found that the toddlers with autism had generalized enlargement of gray- and white-matter cerebral volumes, but not cerebellar volumes (Arch Gen Psychiatry. 2005;62:1366-76).

In that same study, they examined retrospective, longitudinal head-circumference data from birth to age 3 years in 113 children with autism and 189 local control children and found that in the children with autism, head circumference appeared normal at birth, but the rate of growth began to increase significantly more than in the control children at around 12 months of age.

In a third type of research, Lonnie Zwaigenbaum, MD, and colleagues at McMaster University, in Hamilton, Ontario, reported that infants with autistic siblings who went on to develop autistic spectrum disorders themselves already had defining behavioral features of autism at 12 months of age (Int J Dev Neurosci. 2005;23:143-52). Mirror-neurons & autismThere has been new research done into the area of these mirror cells and Autism. Ever since autism was identified It has been a struggle to find out what causes it. We know It can be inherited, but the enviroment may also play some part. In people with autism their main signs are lack of eye contact and absence of empathy. They may also have problems understanding metaphors, sometimes taking them literally. Another very unusual behavior is an extreme dislike or complete aversion to certain sounds or noises that sets off bells in their heads

  3. Hi
Thanks for keeping people informed about the truth that Autism is a real Neurological disorder.
I speak publicly about Autism, and I was wondering where your image of the brain and it’s involvement in Autism came from? Did you make it? It’s great, and I was hoping to have your permission to use it to further understanding about Autism and the brain.
Thanks so much for what you are doing.
    H

    • Hannah,

Your welcome, I found that picture online I am sorry that I don’t remember where I should have posted my source next to it. It is great.

      Have a great day

Keep up your public speaking that is hard work.

      Chris

  4. Being late in talking and having a high IQ is what Michael Savage calls “other disorders” also. Well in reality being mildly late in talking, his perseverations, and having a high IQ twenty years ago when my husband was a child would not have gotten him diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome because it was not even in the diagnostic manual until 1993. However, now that it is in the manual his speech delay (very mild) and his ability to hyper focus (perseverations), and his genius level IQ is the very reason he was diagnosed. Of course being married to an Aspie and us having a couple of Kanner Cuties might have had a little to do with why he was willing to be tested to begin with but the diagnosis was based on the required criteria. What Savage doesn’t seem to understand is that that quirkiness is Autism. the lack of diagnosis does not stop it from being Autism. If you have cancer and you don’t go to a doctor capable of diagnosing cancer it doesn’t mean that you don’t have cancer only that you are not diagnosed with it. Before we had a name for cancer people died from it just like they do today. Back when TB was called consumption people died from it. Changing the name did not stop people from dying from it. All it did was give the doctors a better understanding of what was happening. Eventually this led to a treatment. I am Autistic and do not feel the need to be cured of my Autism. However, I do feel that I need certain supports that neurologically typical people do not require in order to function the way society expects me to function. Either I need support or society needs to change its expectations.

  5. turbospinecho, you should do your homework too. Thanks much for this activism-inspiring article, but you should do your homework too— Not everyone with autism has the same symptoms. I have mild-to-moderate Aspergers (a milder variant of autism) and I don’t have an aversion to certain sounds, Sir.
I do have a hard time with eye contact, which is getting better as the years go on. I get nervous in crowded places and it’s not because I’m weak meek sick or uncourageous it’s just too much stimuli plus i’m definitely awkward socially in the telltale Aspergers ways.
Yeah just a heads-up to please be careful how you represent this; I just found out I have it and the more I read online the more depressed I’m starting to become. Not alot of people have a clear understanding of, or are even aware of milder autism especially. Cases can range from very mild to very severe. The ones with Aspergers have certain things in common that definitely set it apart from the rest of the autism spectrum, but I just read that its been decided that the psych industry’s new DSM v5 psychiatric diagnostic manual, for some reason (probly drugmoney), is eliminating Aspergers Syndrome in favor of a standard autism rating scale… This does not bode well with me. Anyhoo take it easy. And where’s all my Aspergers ladies? hehe ;P so alone these days.

  6. My 5 year old son is still undergoing testing for Autism because doctors are so hesitant to automatically just diagnose him as autistic. He can’t speak and he cries every day because he wants to so badly. If, according to this idiot, he was just a brat I think my son would of talked by now. He has been like this since he was 15 months old. He can’t tell us what he wants even though you can tell he wants to so badly. I wanted to cry when I watched this clip. How could someone who hasn’t been there, and has no experience with the situation of having an autistic child be so insensitive!
