About 100 people came out for a Jess Parrish Medical Foundation breakfast called Celebration of Philanthropy on Dec. 3, according to a report sent to me by Melissa Clapp. During the breakfast, the new Pillar of Honor was unveiled, which recognizes gifts to Parrish Medical Center of $100,000 or more. Together, more than $1 million was raised by the Parrish Medical Center Auxiliary, Jerry and Judith Allender, Edward M. Poe, Skanska USA, Sodexo and Space Coast Radiology Associates, all of whom were honored on the new pillar.
“Today is a milestone for this community in that we get to tell a most wonderful story. A story about caring, generous people who are helping to bring about projects and an exciting vision for North Brevard County that otherwise would not, could not be fulfilled,” Laurie Smirl, executive director of Jess Parrish Medical Foundation, said at the event. “It started as a dream, and when many of you here today first got on board, you dared to share that dream with us. Today, we are here to honor some very special people who not only shared this dream, but who also inspire us all to dream big.”
Board members at the event included Richard Boggs, Santiago Bulnes, Randall Coleman, Dorothy Hudson, Kerry Kennedy, Dr. Christopher Manion, Roger Miller, Jason Snodgrass, Christine Sylvester, Barbara Terhune, Rachel and Bill Terry, and John Weaver.
